But I’ll have you know, I didn’t always believe this. You see, I wasn’t always this cool, calm and collected customer who provides meditation and wellness tips and advice to companies like Turner Broadcasting and United Health Group.
In fact, about 12 years ago, it felt like I didn’t know which way was up in my life. I was working about 60-65 hours a week, my mind was racing a mile a minute causing me to experience regular anxiety attacks, I was short-tempered in just about all scenarios, I was confused and overwhelmed.
Left unchecked, stress, worry, anxiety & overwhelm can wreak havoc in your life
When you’re overwhelmed, anxious, worried and stressed, you can’t think straight. For me it got to the point that I made some REALLY, REALLY bad life decisions. The worst of which was that I gave someone who I thought I could trust, $20,000 to invest in a virtual fitness business (or so I thought). To make a long story short, as it turns out, there never was a business (he was a scam artist) and he skipped town with my money in tow.
Here’s the kicker, I didn’t have that $20,000 to invest. It came from credit cards and almost all the money I had saved for tax purposes that year. This rocked my world and the psychological and financial stress led to physical pain. My back “went out” to the point that I couldn’t work or workout for about 6 months, I was only sleeping about 2-3 hours a night due to the discomfort and my weight plummeted from 155 down to 138 lbs.
This is what Stress, Worry and Anxiety left unchecked can look like.
This is the easiest and most simplified technique for beginning to meditate
The simple FORMULA that I am going to present to you is going to get YOU meditating with ease and joy.
MEDITATION.what does this word mean to you? If I had to guess, for many folks it would mean 30-60 minutes of sitting still in a funny, uncomfortable pose with legs crossed, burning incense, trying not to think about anything. And what I’ve just described probably sounds like one of the most frustrating scenarios a human being can encounter!
Rather, here’s a one minute explanation of what my version of meditation is.imagine closing your eyes, sitting comfortably (NOT for 20 minutes because I know you’re a busy executive) for just 3 minutes and imagine in those 3 minutes controlling your breathing, your heart rate slowing down, listening to the words I say to focus and calm your mind.(SNAP) you open your eyes and you feel relaxed, you have a better outlook on life and you see life in full Technicolor! This is what my super affluent and super busy clients achieve.
So you see, to begin you will not have to worry at all about crossing your legs, finding your chi, wearing a robe, or burning incense at all. This is a “come as your are” program.
The other thing I’d like to share with you is that meditation doesn’t have to be confusing or necessarily an Eastern concept. It it helps, think of it as a form of prayer to your God, to your Self, to the Universe.
It’s a way of honoring your connection to what I’ll call Source energy, that which began all of us. For I believe that all of the vitality and power of the Universe is contained within each of us. We, then, are the microcasm to the universe’s macrocasm. Meditation as a form of prayer and honor, is thus at a most basic level a recognition of this connection. So when you hear the word meditation, don’t think that I’m trying to get you to change your personal belief system about God or about all things spiritual.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that meditation as I hope to present it to you, is all-inclusive and not exclusive at all. To be honest, a 3-minute meditation may be more effective for you while you’re taking a nice brisk walk. I’ll call this “kinetic comtemplation!”
When you learn to take a few minutes a day to chill and sit still.to exist as a human “being” rather than a human “doing”, you’ll have more energy than a teenager, the serenity of a monk, and the healthiest mind of anyone at your age.
