Just a few short years ago, I hated practicing law. I was like a lawyer cliche – constantly stressed and unhappy, working for a law firm I didn’t like.

I was working long hours. I rarely saw my family. I didn’t have control over my work, my time, or my income.

Today, I run my own small law firm which allows me to choose my clients, pick my schedule, and (if I need to) run off in the middle of the day to pick up my kids from school.

I am happier and I make more money with more time off than I had when I was working for someone else’s firm. In fact, I realized recently that I made over $500,000 in under 3 years of working for myself.

But enough about me. Let me ask about you. Are you unhappy with your practice right now? Are you an attorney stuck working in a job that makes you miserable? Or have you started your own firm already but not earning the income you want?

What made my firm a success? Simply put, I figured out how to bring in clients. That’s the most important thing you need to know to have a successful law firm.

When lawyers talk to me about starting their own law firm, they ask about a lot of the details that don’t really matter. They want to know what software to use, what computer to buy, where to get business cars.

I made plenty of mistakes along the way. I spent tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours figuring out what works when it comes to landing clients and increasing your income.

Advances in technology in just the past few years has made it easier than ever for lawyers to start their own small law firm.

Just a few years ago, you would have had to spend $10,000 or $20,000 or more to start your own small firm. But today, you don’t need to spend anywhere near that much – in fact, you can probably get started for under $1,000. New technologies and software services have made it easier than ever to start and run your own law firm on a budget.

The even better news is that these new technologies mean there is often no reason for you to remain stuck working for a firm you hate.
